Luke and Michelle celebrated their love in the most beautiful and intimate way—an elopement at breathtaking Moke Lake, Queenstown. Surrounded by nature and carrying sentimental keepsakes, their day was all about celebrating their bond and creating memories to treasure forever. From their heartwarming proposal in Kuratau, to their choice of timeless jewellery from Max Wilson Jewellers, every detail reflected their unique story. Here’s a glimpse into their journey together and their unforgettable wedding day.
Question 1.) Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Luke and I have a 3 year old daughter Marlie and our second girl is due in February! We are both such home bodies and enjoy just being home, spending quality time together. We love getting together with our friends and the kids, having BBQ’s and letting the kids run wild. Nothing beats a night at home watching a movie and snacking on treats!
Question 2.) How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions of each other?
Luke and I met through mutual friends. Initially it started as a bit of fun but we soon realised we were the male/female versions of each other and became inseparable.
Question 3.) Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
With the help of our best friend Sophie, Luke had organised a beautiful ring from Max Wilson’s. Luke had planned to propose on our Christmas holiday in Kuratau while we were away with friends. Luke got down on a shaky knee and proposed on the lake front. I was holding our 6 month old daughter Marlie at the time so it was a very special moment to share together! Especially getting to celebrate the engagement with our friends, who all knew it was happening.
Question 4.) What made you choose to go with Max Wilson Jewellers for the design and creation of your engagement and wedding rings?
We’ve been loyal customers of Max Wilson Jewellers for years, so it was an easy choice for Luke to go there for advice, especially with our friend working there at the time. I had already tried on a few rings, so they knew my size and style, which made the process even smoother. Luke chose a stunning oval diamond solitaire for me, and when it came to selecting the wedding ring I chose a beautiful diamond band and gold spacer.
Question 6.) What was one element you were happy to “splurge” on?
We wanted our wedding day to be just about the two of us. We splurged on a stunning Airbnb in Queenstown and eloped privately at the beautiful Moke Lake. It was the perfect blend of holiday and wedding!
Question 8.) Were there any special family heirlooms or keepsakes used in your wedding day for your “something borrowed’?
Since it was just the two of us, I wanted to bring something special with me. I wore my great-grandmother’s ring, which had been handed down to my mum—it felt like having both of them with me. I also wore earrings from my sister-in-law, Luke’s sister, to add another meaningful touch.
Question 9.) What advice would you give to future couples planning their weddings?
Do what makes you happy as at the end of the day, it’s only about the two of you celebrating your love!
